Sunday Funday

I didn't have a very good week last week, so when I woke up Sunday morning feeling 95% better, and saw the sky was blue with not a cloud in sight I was excited to have a good day!

Cole and I have been going to church on Sundays, when we are in town. So this Sunday we got up early, but on our Sunday best, and went to church. When we got done with church we went to lunch at our local McAlisters. Which was delicious as always, also I didn't realize how much stuff is on their menu that is reasonable when it comes to calories. When we finished lunch we went home and took our little puppies (by puppies I mean our full grown dogs, Dusk and Cali) for a walk. Cole and I have been enjoying taking them for walks through local neighborhoods, so we can daydream and discuss about what we want in our future home.

When we got back from our walk I ended up meeting with my old roommate. We have tried to get together to do her Senior pictures several times, and literally every time we planned to it would be insanely cloudy, or pouring rain. We seriously had to postpone it at least three times. Well this Sunday was the perfect day, and she happened to be in town. So we met in the afternoon, and traipsed around campus for a good hour and a half taking pictures. To our amazement the gates to the stadium were open so we took the oppurtunity to get some photos in the stadium, and with the rock. I found out later it was because the new university president was being toured around campus. We don't get to see each other very often, so it was really great getting to catch up, and just hangout.

I will put a post up in a little bit with the photos from her shoot.

All in all, Sunday was a great day. Not only was it beautiful outside, it was just what I needed after having such a rough week last week. I got me out of the dumps and looking forward to this week. I have a feeling it is going to be a busy week.

Hope you all had a great weekend, and are tackling this Monday morning well! I wish you all a great week.

My "Healthier Me" Plan

I have a big tendency to get overwhelmed with school work during the semester, and the first seem that seems to fall off of my to-do list is working out along with eating healthy. I know it shouldn't but my stressed out mind thinks, why waste my time working out, and cooking healthy food when I have 8,034 things to do for school. My grades are the most important thing right now...but I need to stop thinking that way. My goal this semester is to kick that thought process.
I am determined to keep my plan through the semester. Setting aside an hour during the day to go to the gym is not going to be affect my grades...if anything it will be a stress reliever, and help my mind focus on the tasks I have to complete.
My goals for my Healthier Me Plan:

1.Go to the gym every day during the week.

  •  Cardio train to run a 5k.
  • Strength train to tone my muscles
2.  I also plan to keep track of my calorie intake, because lets be honest keeping track of calories allows me to enjoy my favorite foods. The key is to eat healthier food I like most of the time (like spinach, corn, and fruit) and enjoying a little bit of treats when my calorie intake for the day allows for it.

3. I want to do fun activities outdoors with Cole, and the babies when it stops raining/isn't freezing. I love taking walks as a family. I also really want to start playing volleyball more, and go hiking.

This plan is just to make myself a better me, but if I happen to lose a few pounds in the process that would be great, since Cole and my wedding is quickly approaching.

Not What I Expected....

When I started my last semester of school this week I was expecting classes and the impending pile of homework I will be facing shortly would be the focus of my worries this week. I was very, very wrong. The day I started classes I woke up with a sore shoulder and I was having slight difficulty taking deep breaths. I wasn't too concerned about it, I went to classes on Wednesday, and toughed it out through the day. However as the day went by the difficulty I was having taking deep breaths was getting worse, I felt like I was having trouble breathing and had shortness of breath. I was concerned that I might have the flu or pneumonia, but it was strange that I wasn't coughing or sneezing, I had absolutely no other symptoms other than shortness of breath. Wednesday night/Thursday morning I had a terrible night of sleep due to discomfort so Thursday morning I set up a doctors appointment to get it checked out because I was starting to worry. I went into the doctor at 10. I literally spent all day at different doctors, making me miss one of my classes. My regular doctor ruled on pneumonia, ran an EKG on me. She also decided I needed to go have a CAT scan done to rule out blood clots. I am a carrier for a blood clot disorder called Factor 5, which puts me at a higher risk of developing blood clots. Let the panic set in, I was pretty freaked out. So I went and got that done, and the results were good, I don't have a blood clot. Thank goodness. My doctor informed me that she is pretty sure I just have irritated lungs, that are swollen, making breathing deep painful, and causing my muscles to tense up in my shoulders causing the aching. My doctor however noticed some "normal" inconsistencies on the EKG as she said, and just wanted me to see a Cardiologist to make sure it wasn't being caused by an issue stemming from my Factor 5. So I had to miss my first class on Friday too, because I had to go to the cardiologist. I literally waited an hour and a half to see him, for him to tell me that there is nothing to worry about, and he doesn't want to run any tests. I was a bit annoyed when I was leaving. Well he ended up coming out to my car and informing me that he changed his mind and he does want to run a stress test on me. So I have ANOTHER appointment Thursday. Thankfully I won't have to miss another class for that appointment. So far it sounds like it is nothing serious, my lungs are just sore and painful for no reason...but I will be happy to have the stress test over with to be sure nothing is wrong. This week was definitely not what I was expecting, but I am happy that it hasn't been proven to be anything serious. My chest is starting to feel a lot better, and I am looking forward to going to class next week, and focusing on class.
